about

While I was writing and recording in 'the cabin' in Skálá, Iceland, I met many interesting people along my journey, often while hitching from Skálá to Hafsós to buy groceries.

Red Tide is based on one of the many folk stories I was told, based on real life characters in one of the small towns there. It speaks of a fishing village many years ago and the tragedy that befell a small community when two children drowned in an area where whaling had stained the water blood red. But it is not all doom and gloom, it is also about a town coming to terms with their grief and the love that bonded them together.

I wrote many other songs based on folk stories of the island, and found it refreshing to write about stories washed away with the past.
